Den Grimme Ælling [The Ugly Duckling] – A Futuristic Cocktail Bar Beneath History

Located beneath the historic Svanen Apoteket in Oslo, Den Grimme Ælling transforms the pharmacy’s 1896 laboratory into a forward-looking cocktail experience. While the ground floor honors the past, this basement bar boldly embraces the future—merging cutting-edge technology, innovative bar design, and sustainable practices in a space that feels both intimate and avant-garde.

Every detail—from the custom-built bar station by @behindbarsagency to the natural materials by @elements_of_nature_no and acoustic solutions by @vank.design—reflects a conscious design ethos rooted in functionality, atmosphere, and environmental responsibility.
